Charlie Leigus – Forester

E.R. Hinman & Sons Forester Charlie Leigus

Charles Leigus is a professional forester as certified by the State of Connecticut.  Charles earned a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management and Engineering specializing in forestry from the  University of Connecticut. He continued his education in the field of soil sciences and wetlands identification at the University of Massachusetts.He has over 20 years of experience in working with private land owners in assisting them with forest management and timber harvesting.  Charles is a member of the Society of American Foresters and the Connecticut Professional Timber Producers Association.

Michael Hinman

Michael Hinman

Mike began his career at E.R. Hinman & Sons Inc. in 1969, working for his father, uncle, and grandfather as a summer employee. At the age of 15, he began to learn the many aspects of lumber production and assisted in the construction of the new mill, which was completed in 1970. In 1972, Mike enrolled in business courses at the community college and later that year, traveled to Memphis, Tennessee to attend the National Hardwood Lumber Association grading school, graduating in 1973. Mentored by his father, Howard Hinman, Mike learned to operate the de-barker, edger, end trimmer, main saw, and loader equipment. In 1976, he mastered the skill of sawing and has remained the primary sawyer to date. Mike served on the Board of Directors and as an officer for WOODPAC, Wood Producers Association of Connecticut for decades and currently serves on the Board of Directors for TIMPRO, CT Professional Timber Producers Association.

Rudy Niksa – Master Craftsman

Rudy Niksa is E.R. Hinman and Sons’ Shop Manager, Cabinet Maker and Timber Frame Specialist. Rudy is responsible for the layout, fabrication and quality control of all timber frame projects that run through Hinman’s wood shop. He also oversees all other woodshop projects and offers consolation services for customer projects. Rudy has worked for over 30 years as a top tier cabinet maker. Prior to his time at Hinman, Niksa worked for 20+ years at a large commercial architectural woodworking shop. His duties included layout and machine work for national and international clients. Niksa’s career started in residential cabinet making and remodeling projects.

Jared Bradock – Commercial Construction Project Manager

Jared Braddock is a project manager for the Fox Hunt Subdivision and for E.R. Hinman and Sons, Inc. He is responsible for coordinating with  clients, contractors, realtors and banks to construct traditionally framed and timber framed residential and light commercial buildings.Braddock  as worked in residential and light commercial construction since 2005. He assumed responsibility of the Fox Hunt Subdivision project in 2010.  In his time as project manager, he has implemented a residential Energy Star program and expanded the building division to include the latest in energy  star building technology and practices. Technologies utilized in recent projects include precast foundation systems, structural insulated panels  (SIPs), and geothermal heating and cooling systems.

With the support of ownership and the team at E.R. Hinman and Sons Inc, Jared has helped the business expand into the local timber frame manufacturing and building market. To date, the Hinman’s woodshop has manufactured and raised timber frame buildings in Harwinton, Norfolk and Farmington Connecticut.

Zachary Arasimowicz – Lumber Grader

The boating and fishing enthusiast started with the company in 2010. After several years as an operator at the edging station at the lumber mill operation, Zach’s eye for the yield and utilization of Hinman’s lumber production made him a candidate to graduate to “Lumber Grader.”On his own initiative he began studying the National Hardwood Lumber Association’s NHLA Grading Rules. With the help of experienced lumber grader, Michael Hinman, Zach completed the course work and took on lumber grading duties at E.R. Hinman & Sons.

Joseph Marsh AKA: Sam – Tally Man

SAM

Joseph Marsh, nicknamed “Sam” by friends since boyhood has worked in the lumber industry since 1973. He began his career at Sekulski Millworks in New Hartford, Connecticut, working for his first cousin, Bob.Sam started with E.R. Hinman & Sons on March 19, 2001. Since then, he says he has seen a lot more productivity going into the overall lumber operation.He prides himself on his work ethic exclaiming that he has “never missed a day of work in 40 years and he’s never been late in 50!” Making sure the lumber is accurately stacked and labeled in the appropriate designation may seem like a small task, but it is a very important job to keep the operation running smoothly. Sam properly stacks, stickers, tallies, records and inventories the cut wood before shipment. In addition he has run the debarking operation, run the trim saw on soft woods and he is a skilled fork lift operator. The 63-year old sees himself as a teacher to the younger generations that come through the door. Safety comes first because “we all need to be here tomorrow,” he says. He trains all of the newcomers in sorting operations and takes pride in his skills as a tallyman at the mill.
